De Onlanden is a relatively new nature reserve on the border of the provinces Drenthe and Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. It received it's name in 2009, but the area has been popular with all kinds of birds and other animals for many years. In recent years, the area is highly developed and in 2010 was returned to nature. All indications are that De Onlanden will develop into a beautiful nature reserve with swamps, streams and naturally fluctuating water levels. It is expected that within a few years beavers and otters will return here. |
